It's very ironic that the four years I spent in Frye's Mobile Home Park & Hog Farm-a trailer park typically being a clear symbol of first world poverty-were some of the most enjoyable years of my life. Outside of school, my siblings and I were rarely short of total freedom. There were always people around, so we could always find something to do, whether or not that entailed trouble. Also, in some strange way, though I was ashamed of my home, this was a time in my life when I feel as though my self-confidence peaked. It was during these years (8-12 years of age) that I realized that I was able to perform very well in school and in sports. I was one of the best students in my grade and was always one of the best players on my football and baseball teams. I also learned during this time that I had artistic abilities. The Two Lost Sons

I just finished a book by Tim Keller about the parable from Luke 15 traditionally found under the subhead The Prodigal Son . The book has provided so much more insight into the parable than I've ever known and has challenged me more than anything I've read in a long time. Since so much of what I'm going to say is from the book, I'll go ahead and post a link to it: The Prodigal God.  *All page number references are to this edition. The Parable of the Two Lost Sons Keller first makes the point that a more accurate title of this parable would be the Parable of the Two Lost Sons as the traditional focus on the younger brother may do injustice to the text (keep in mind that the chapter and verse divisions, as well as the subheads in the Bible are not part of the original writings, so this suggestion does no harm to Keller's high view of the Bible's textual integrity and reliability). Take 2!

I'm taking a new blogging direction. I've typically focused all blogging and journaling on spiritual topics. I believe that Christian truths define us as humans and influence every aspect of life, but I'd like to expand my posts beyond that reality. I'm not shedding my faith; I'm simply wishing to record and share additional thoughts. So, nothing will be off limits (except pop culture-so that my ignorance can remain concealed). I may write on random thought tangents, sports, politics, religion, geography, books, philosophy, family, or nearly anything. Some posts will be serious, some will be humorous, and some will be morally neutral. I can't predict where this chaos will go, but hope that I can pique the interest of a few others along the way. Hopefully, my first thoughts will come soon!
